La Meccanica srl was founded in 1961 and
employs approximately 55 people, 40 of whom
are employed in the production department.
The factory has an area of approximately 10,000
square metres.
La Meccanica srl first was established by
Ottorino Reffo, who perceived the enormous
potential in the market. The founder’s farsighted
entrepreneurship and his
enormous aptitude for developing
innovative ideas were the assets
that enabled the company to
rapidly grow, becoming, in just a
few years, an industrial reality in
the foreground.

both in its organisation and throughout the production

Quality is customer satisfaction
The company has always focused its attention on

complement to the high-performance machines
supplied.
Dies-Technical specifications:
• High-quality raw materials/blanks,
including high chrome-content
steels;
• Gun drilling and mirror polishing
of holes;
•Vacuum hardening—thermal
treatment;
• Negligible distortion of the die
during thermal treatment;
• Rigorous quality control prior to
delivery; and
• Short delivery time.
Our dies are manufactured of steel X46Cr13
(commonly known as ‘stainless’ or ‘chrome-steel’).
Properties of the various alloy components:
• Nickel has a strengthening effect;
• Manganese is included in the alloy because it improves
the resistance to wear and stock
loads;
• Chrome influences the
mechanical properties
(resistance and
hardness) and
the physical ones
(resistance to
corrosion and
oxidisation); and
• Molybdenum reduces
brittleness.
The X46Cr13 steel
dies are vacuum/through
hardened, the thermal treatment achieving a 53-55
HRc hardness on the surface and in the core. The high
content of chrome makes it corrosion-resistant.
La Meccanica specialises in the production of dies
for all the main brands of pellet mills—CPM, Buhler,
UM T-Paladin, Matador, Salmatec,Van Aarsen, Stolz,
Chia Tung.
Experience and tradition serving quality
Our dies are quickly implemented in production
because they:
• Have a perfect hole finish;
• Have undergone a vacuum treatment, preventing steel
oxidisation; and
• Have undergone a 30-minute testing before delivery.
Our dies have a long life because they:
• Are made of high-quality, high-carbon and high-chrome-content steel; and
• Are very hard after the thermal treatment.
