Multi-functional production line
Andritz Sprout described equipping a new 400,000 ton-per-year
feedmill near Varazdin in Croatia for the KOK subsidiary of Croatian
integrator Vindia. The equipment included a premix line, full fat soya
extrusion and three parallel pelleting lines for the mill that produces
feeds under the Biodar brand name. Known internationally as a producer of cheeses, the client also now produces juices, pork, poultry

On-line bulk density tester
Imtech used a Victam seminar to introduce Magi-Con feed processing as used at Sa WeCo Mengvoeders in the Netherlands and including
equipment from Dinnissen Process Technology. The multi-functional
production line gives the possibility of producing various product types,
with expanding and extruding alongside pelleting and vacuum core
coating for maximum flexibility. Operation involves ImPlant process

Dosing system
Norvidan NODS on-line bulk density
tester for aquafeeds and petfoods avoids
the variable results associated with
manual sampling. Fully automated, it
uses a stainless steel cup with a rounded
base to take accurate and repeatable
samples by moving forward pneumatically into the pellet flow. After vibrating to
fill without air pockets, it withdraws under
a scraper blade that levels the contents.
The cup, mounted on a load-cell to weigh
the sample, inverts afterwards to return
the pellets to the product flow and for
cleaning by a jet of air before re-use.

Feed treatment
Van Aarsen International presented
a precision ingredients dosing system
designed as integral part of a micro
ingredient dosing system. The installation was described as giving highly
accurate dosing of vitamins, minerals and additives for a premix or for
direct addition to a complete feed. It
weighs/doses from 50-100 gram with
accuracy of 1 gram. Dosing is by grid
slides operated by hydraulic cylinders,
with slide position measured by a non-

NIR analytical tool
Anitox presented Termin- 8 feed treatment for Salmonella reduction
and elimination. With formaldehyde and propionic acid as its main
ingredients, the antimicrobial product was called active against a wide
range of bacteria and moulds. www.anitox.com
Pellet production
Foss seminar highlighted use of near-infrared NIR as a fast and
cost-effective analytical tool for process control and incoming raw
material checks. The company launched NIR package Total Feed
Solution for the mid-sized compounder, complete with instrument,

emphasised the value of short-time/
high-speed mixing in the conditioner
and a separate retention time in the
company’s hygieniser, which the meal
enters at 85o C. A screen of Plexiglas
allows the filling rate to be observed
and optimised safely. Also shown was
steam flaking machinery, illustrating an
increased European practice of mixing
flakes with meal in structural feeds.
